Based on their annual readers survey, Consumers Reports ranked Virgin America hands down the best U.S. airline. “Virgin America is a cut above the rest,” Consumer Reports senior editor Amanda Walker told NBC News. “People were very happy with their flights on Virgin.” Virgin America received some of the highest satisfaction scores, with scores that have not been seen for years by any airline.
According to the survey, Virgin America got high marks for check-in, in-flight entertainment, cabin cleanliness, flight attendants, and seats. It was the only airline to get top ranks for baggage handling.
Behind Virgin America there was a tie between Southwest and JetBlue. Consumers ranked them both high in cabin service and check-in. But JetBlue ranked higher in cabin cleanliness and seating comfort.
Alaska, Delta, Frontier and Hawaiian were in the middle of the rankings followed by US Airways, American and United. It is not good news for the flying public, that the major carriers could do not better than average, but it is no surprise.
Spirit Airlines earned the well deserved bottom spot with the lowest overall scores ever recorded for an U.S. airline.
